Time for some more stoic insight.
Call things by their right names
What does this mean? It means thinking and saying only what you objectively observe, not your judgements or assessments of things.
For example, if you see someone’s shirt un-tucked, you think “his shirt is un-tucked,” not “he’s a slob” or “he’s a rebel.”
Here’s another: someone enters your lane right in front of you on the highway, forcing you to slow down or risk hitting them. You think “that person just changed lanes in front of me,” not “what an idiot.”
This stuff is not easy, but there are benefits. “Calling things by their right names” minimizes how much your biases affect your thoughts and emotions. It allows for clearer, calmer thinking, and helps minimize stress and anxiety. Try it out.
